Project description:

Windpark Nij Hiddum-Houw is a development of Windpark Gooyum-Houw and Vattenfall. Windfarm Nij Hiddum-Houw is located at the head of the Afsluitdijk in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. The sixteen old wind turbines from this area have been replaced by nine more powerful windturbines. The new Enercon E136 EP5 wind turbines have a capacity of 4.65 megawatts each and a tip height of 177 metres. This new windfarm thus contributes to the objective of the province of Fryslân to generate 170,000 MWh/y of wind energy.
To connect the wind turbines, two new grid connections have been realized with the Liander network in two customer substations. The wind turbines are interconnected with 20 kV cables to transport the generated power from the wind turbines to the two substations.
The first wind turbines will be commissioned at the end of 2022.

Activities of Energy Solutions:

For this project, Energy Solutions has made a substantial contribution during the design and realization of the windfarm on behalf of Windpark Nij Hiddum-Houw.

The following works have been performed:

  • Investigating the possibilities for connecting the windfarm to the distribution network.
  • Tendering and coordination of the realization of two fibre optic internet connections.
  • Tendering and coordination of the realization of the kWh-metering.
  • Set up the specifications of the electrical and data components for use in the RAW specifications for the design and installation of the wind farm cabling and placement of the customer substations.
  • Technical support to the project management in tendering the electrical works.
  • Assessing and reviewing the detailed designs and method statements, made by the Balance of Plant contractor.
  • Guidance, support and quality control during the construction, testing and commissioning of the electrical and data infrastructure.
  • Coordination of the energization of the windfarm.
  • Obtaining so-called Grid compliance from the network operator Liander.
  • Supervising the coordination on the interfaces between wind turbine supplier Enercon, main contractor Jansma Drachten bv/M. Westra b.v., the electrical subcontractor SPIE and the 20kV grid connections of Liander.
